Fan into flame
The Christian life is meant to be a passionate, zealous and committed relationship to God. However, worldly routines, distractions, disappointments, and unmet expectations can dim our fire. God never planned for His children to have cold hearts and lukewarm faith. As with the fire, our spiritual life needs constant fellowship with God, through prayer, worship, and Bible study, or it will lose its intensity. The positive side to this, however, is that God specializes in renewal and restoration. Paul implores Timothy to "fan into flame" which suggests that spiritual fire has to be deliberately nurtured. In the Old Testament, the priests were instructed to always 'keep' the fire burning at the altar and never allow it to go out (Leviticus 6:12-13). The fire was living proof of God's presence with His people and had to be tended continually. Likewise, we are always to pursue God and develop intimacy with Him. Revival starts when we see our need for Him and are hungry once again. Reviving the fire involves spending time in prayer, even when we don't feel like it; engaging in whole-hearted worship; and constant study and meditation on Scripture. It also involves repentance and breaking away from habits and immoral circles to leave space for the Holy Spirit to influence, empower, and revive our fire for God’s work. When we return to Him, the flame will be rekindled, no matter how small it is. God is ever ready to pour out new oil on a heart that thirsts for Him.

Read: Romans 12:9-11 Meditate: Revelation 2:4–5
Read: The Call to Genuine, Passionate Love. Romans 12:9-11 (NIV)"Love must be sincere. Hate what is evil; cling to what is good. Be devoted to one another in love. Honor one another above yourselves. Never be lacking in zeal, but keep your spiritual fervor, serving the Lord."The Focus: This passage is an inspiring guide to authentic Christian living. It calls for "sincere" (or unhypocritical) love, a hatred for evil, and deep, honorable devotion to others. Verse 11 specifically warns against spiritual laziness ("slothfulness") and encourages you to keep your spirit on fire and passionate while serving God.2. Meditate: The Call to Return to Your "First Love"Revelation 2:4-5 (NIV)"Yet I hold this against you: You have forsaken the love you had at first. Consider how far you have fallen! Repent and do the things you did at first. If you do not repent, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place."The Focus: While the Roman church is encouraged to fan their spiritual fire, the church at Ephesus in Revelation is warned because they lost their "first love". Even though they were working hard and doing the right things, the passion and devotion behind their actions had faded. Jesus' remedy is to remember, repent, and return to the passionate devotion they had when they first believed.

Today’s Prayer
Dearest Father, thank You for Your word and the fire You have given me. Lord, redirect my path to committed service to You. Revive a daily, constant fellowship with You. I break away from ungodly habits and friendships and surrender to the direction of the Holy Spirit. Let Your fire continue to burn in me, in Jesus’ name, Amen!
